Gov. Sarah Palin's Track Record Provides Insight Into Her Potential White House Influence
Reston, VA (Vocus) September 11, 2008 -- Governor Sarah Palin's (R-AK) background in state and local government could come to the forefront as part of a McCain administration, according to Chris Dixon, manager, state & local market analysis at INPUT, the authority on government business. First as mayor of Wasilla and most recently as governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin has employed information technology pragmatically in support of her larger policy agenda. In FY 2008, Alaska spent $69.8 million on technology and telecommunications, with IT services and IT consulting comprising over 41% of the total spending.
"Her tenure in Juneau has continued the steady elevation of the role of IT within Alaska state government -- especially via the state CIO's office," said Dixon." INPUT is currently tracking the $50 million in IT initiatives coming out of the Palin administration for FY 2009. Those initiatives focus on key areas of education and workforce readiness as well as social services and health care. Alaska's "Checkbook Online" provides transparency into exactly where and with whom the state did its IT business.
These findings and others were released in two recent blog posts, 'Sarah Palin -- A View of the Candidate on the Issues, Including Technology (http://www.input.com/blogs/public/index.cfm/2008/9/6/Sarah-Palin--A-View-of-the-Candidate-on-the-Issues-Including-Technology?cmp=OTC-Palin091108)' and 'Who's Got the IT Juice in Alaska: A Look at the Top IT Vendors (http://www.input.com/blogs/public/index.cfm/2008/9/9/Whos-Got-the-IT-Juice-in-Alaska--A-Look-at-the-Top-IT-Vendors?cmp=OTC-Palin091108).'
Via the state and local section of the B2G Exchange blog (https://www.input.com/login/loginPage.cfm?CFTOKEN=42189089&CFID=1056785&NEWFORMACTION=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.input.com%2Fblogs%2Fstateandlocal%2Findex.cfm%3F), INPUT will be providing weekly insights into how a potential McCain or Obama administration could affect federal policies that drive state and local IT spending.
