Naples Cosmetic Surgery Practice Sees Procedures Rise in Line with National Statistics

Naples, FL (PRWEB) May 17, 2008 -- The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) has just released its 2007 national plastic surgery statistics, and Naples, Florida plastic surgeon Dr. Kent Hasen has seen many of the national trends take shape at his South Florida practice. Nationwide, close to 12 million surgical and non-surgical procedures were performed in 2007, according to the ASPS.

The ASPS reported a 6% increase in breast augmentation procedures across the country. This increase is not surprising, since 2007 was the first full year when the new generation of silicone gel implants was widely available for women considering breast augmentation. Dr. Hasen offers both silicone gel and saline breast implants for Naples cosmetic surgery patients.

"Silicone gel implants have become hugely popular since FDA re-approval in November 2006," says board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Hasen. "Certainly, this implant type has been chosen instead of saline implants in many cases, but I think the ASPS stats provide evidence that some women who were not interested in saline implants are scheduling breast enlargement now that silicone gel implants are widely available."

As far as body contouring procedures are concerned, the ASPS statistics show that this area of cosmetic surgery is relatively stable, with almost no change in the number of liposuction and tummy tuck procedures performed in 2007 compared to 2006. "There was a lot of growth in the number of Naples cosmetic surgery patients wanting body sculpting procedures earlier this decade, but interest seems to have plateaued for now. Still, both liposuction and abdominoplasty are 2 of the 5 most popular procedures nationwide."

Unlike body contouring, facial cosmetic surgery is on the rise, with over 350,000 people nationwide having eyelid surgery or a facelift in 2007. Dr. Hasen continues to see substantial interest in these and other facial cosmetic procedures. "It's all about looking as young on the outside as you feel on the inside," he adds. "People are living active, engaging lifestyles well into their 60s, 70s, and beyond - having that younger appearance is an important part of many people's lifestyles."

And in fact, minimally-invasive procedures, most of which focus on facial improvement, are seeing the biggest year-over-year percentage increase, as people look for affordable, convenient ways to achieve long-term cosmetic improvement. Products such as [link BOTOX® Cosmetic, Restylane®, and Juvéderm?, and treatments such as microdermabrasion all saw increased demand in 2007. According to Dr. Hasen, "The growing interest in medical spa treatments makes perfect sense. These treatments reveal improved results quickly, cause very little discomfort, and offer an enhanced look that lasts many months. That's why there were almost 10 million minimally-invasive procedures performed nationwide last year."

Women and men considering cosmetic surgery in Naples realize that it's much more than a numbers game. "Cosmetic surgery changes lives, pure and simple," adds Dr. Hasen. "You can look at the statistics all you want, but they don't tell the personal stories of transformation, they don't give a good sense of how cosmetic procedures can improve both a person's look and outlook. No one is a number at my practice - we provide patients with personal attention in a warm, supportive atmosphere."
