NBC to Shoot TV Pilot "Kings" in the Rockaways Benjamin-Beechwood Organization Offers Opportunities to View the Shoot & Meet Director at The Dunes, Ar

Jericho, NY (PRWEB) May 13, 2008 -- What do a local residential developer and a TV network have in common? They both love the location of The Dunes neighborhood at Arverne By The Sea. Benjamin Beechwood LLC, the developer of the master planned community known as Arverne By The Sea, thought the oceanfront site in the Rockaways was perfect for the development of two-family homes. And NBC thought it was the perfect backdrop for shooting scenes for its pilot TV show, "Kings" -- starring actor Ian McShane and directed by Francis Lawrence of "I Am Legend" fame.

NBC's location scout had contacted the developer, asking to use the site for the filming of the pilot -- a fantasy David and Goliath story that takes place in modern times. "When arrangements were set with NBC, we wanted to extend the opportunity for people to visit Arverne by the Sea, view the filming and meet the director," said Michael Dubb, a principal of Benjamin Beechwood LLC. The Dunes is the newest neighborhood in Beechwood's 2,300-home, Arverne by the Sea master planned development, set on 127 acres. The Dunes is currently in pre-construction and, when complete, will consist of 270 two-family homes with an income-producing rental unit.

The Dunes' ocean view fit the bill for "Kings" filming requirements. "It's a big, open space. When you look toward the sea, you see an unbroken horizon," said Danny Coss, location assistant for NBC. The unbroken horizon, he explained, makes the computer animation process much easier than having to first delete existing structures in the background, such as skyscrapers.

"Kings" is loosely based on the story of King David. Character actor Ian McShane -- whose credits include portraying a villain in the HBO series, "Deadwood" -- stars as King Silas in the show. Filming takes place this month at The Dunes, and Arverne By The Sea is offering limited opportunities for its customers to view the shooting and have a chance to meet the director. For more information, please contact Arverne By The Sea at 718-474-5400.
